Mr. Samuel Byrd entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Samuel was a loving husband, father, brother, friend, and servant of God. He was born on August 25, 1944, to Hosie Byrd, Sr. and Minnie Lee Jones Byrd.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 52 years Eula Mae Jackson Byrd, a sister, Janie Ruth Byrd Freeman, two brothers, James Jones and Hosie Byrd, Jr., and two brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Jackson and Ray Freeman.

Samuel or "Sam", as he was affectionately known by some, was an active member of Southside Church of Christ. Samuel was also known as the family historian as he loved sharing his knowledge and stories about the Byrd family history. He was educated in Greenwood public school system and was a graduate of Brewer High School. He also attended Lander University. During high school, he competed in automotive competitions at Tuskegee where he was awarded the winning trophy. In his early years, he drove a 1966 Chevelle that was feared by many and famously called the "Blue Angel" for racing at the Ware Shoals drag strip. Samuel was a businessman who served the community through his talent and skills as a top-tier automotive Master Mechanic. He served the community's automotive needs through the automotive business he co-owned and operated at Byrd's Auto Sales & Service, Inc. for over 40 years with his late brother Hosie, late wife Eula, and sister-in-law Annie Byrd until his retirement in 2010. It was often said, "If the Byrds can't fix it, nobody can fix it."

Leaving to cherish his most precious and fond memories are his daughter Alison Jane Byrd of Atlanta, GA; a son Brandon Byrd of Hodges, SC;  three grandchildren, Iyanna Jackson, Jayden Hastings, and Braedon Hastings; two brothers, Judge Benjamin (Jessie) Byrd of Columbia, SC, and Claude (Brenda) Byrd of Hodges, SC; and two sisters, Annie Byrd Bennett of Durham, NC, and Martha (Wes) Byrd Johnson of Raleigh, NC. Samuel also leaves three brothers-in-law, John (Barbara) Jackson of Abbeville, SC; Michael (Julia) Jackson of Greenwood, SC, and Rufus Jackson of Hodges, SC; and six sisters-in-law, Annie Byrd, Linda Jackson, Vernell (Olin) Klugh of Hodges, SC, Dorothy Spencer, Vera Jackson Grant, and Dolores Rucker all of Greenwood, SC. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ, and friends to mourn his passing.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Parks Funeral Home. The homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Southside Church of Christ, 212 Old Mount Moriah Road, Greenwood, SC.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
