Mr. Melvin Douglas Brooks, 65, of Apartment 115 D Jones Street in Greenwood, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 8, 2022 at his home.

Born in Greenwood County on September 21, 1956, he was the son of the late Paul B. Brooks, Sr. and Zora  Spencer Brooks.

Melvin was educated in the public school system of Greenwood County and was formerly employed with Dickert's Moving Company.

"Barkoots" as he was affectionately called by his family and friends was an outgoing person who loved life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and there was no limit to the things and people he encountered.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Gloria Jean Williams, Lettie Irvin and Sara Mae Brooks; one brother, Paul B. Brooks, Jr.

Leaving to cherish his most precious and fond memories are;  his  daughter, Indica Gaskin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Dennis (Camille) of Virginia; Sierra, Kierra (Karon) Glenn, Kaira, Ijua and Makaiyah Gaskin all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five great grandchildren, Kaylei, Joshua, Darren, Kendall from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Harlow of Virginia; one sister, Josie Edwards of Greenwood, South Carolina;  four brothers, Willie (LueVonia) Brooks, Charlie Brooks, John Brooks and Howard Brooks all of Greenwood, South Carolina; one uncle, Dennis Spencer of Tampa, Florida; two aunts, Charley Jean Campbell of Sarasota, Florida and Lethelia Smith of New York. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Parks Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Marvin Hughes, Presiding and Officiating. Assisting will be the  Reverend James Moss.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 15, 2022 from 1-6 P.M at the funeral home.
