Mattie Jane White Hackett's Obituary
Mattie Jane White Hackett, 83, of 429 Bintage Rd., widow of John Edward Hackett answered God's call on Monday May 13, 2019. She was born in Bradley, SC to the late Frank and Lucille Covington White.
A member of Brewer High School Class of 1954, she earned her high school diploma through Greenwood Adult Education in 1975. Mattie was a homemaker and worked as a domestic housekeeper. In 1973, she was honored as the first SC GMAS Headstart Parent of the Year and also as the S tate Parent of the Year after completing top volunteer hours in the classroom for GMAS Headstart, Greenwood, SC. She was a long-time faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee'ss Chair of the Benevolence Ministry and the Wednesday Sick and Shut-in Meals, Senior Missionary Secretary, 2017 LRMBA Women's Auxiliary's Woman of Wisdom, Vacation Bible School Meal Coordinator, active member of the Raintree Community Club and a member of Women's Home Aid Society #87.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memories seven children, John D. (Gwendolyn) Hackett, Wildwood, MO; Linda J. (Glenn) Norman, Deborah H. Williams, Yolanda R. Williams, Christa D. Hackett, Janet L. Hackett all of Greenwood, SC; and Kimberly D. (Kim) Murphy, Clinton, SC; two sisters, Bettye W. Williams, Greenwood, SC and Mary W. Newson, Philadelphia, PA; three brothers, Calvin (Mary) White, Sr., and Walter L . White both of Greenwood, SC and Thomas (Alma) White of Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law; Effie M. White, Jeanette H. White, Marie Pope, and Charlene S. Anderson, Greenwood, SC; Helen (Rev. Paul, Sr.) Long, Rock Hill, SC; Frances Taylor, Baltimore, MD; and brothers-in-law, Frank (Jackie) Hackett, Raleigh, NC and Grady Singletary, Detroit, MI; an aunt, Ophelia Moore, Edgefield, SC; two special nieces/daughters, Diane (Brian) Calhoun, Karen (Larry) Perrin, Greenwood, SC; 20 grandchildren of which 5 were reared in the home, Catina (Brandon) Jennings, Jasmine T. Hackett, Kevin (KJ) Martin, Christopher Slappy, Jr., and Ja'Kobe Hentz, all of Greenwood, SC, 23 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and caregivers, Sara M. Anderson and Delia Blair.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by children, Valerie Hackett and Alton Ray Hackett, brothers, Frank White, Jr., and Edward White, Sr.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Adams officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Flower Bearers will be nieces. Honorary Escorts will be The Brewer Class of 1954 and the Trustees of the church.
The family is at the home.
