Mrs. Mattie L. Brown was born February 8, 1934 in McCormick, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Annie Lee Williams and Johnny Goodwin Sr.  She was a resident of Hodges, South Carolina.

She was formerly employed by Self Regional Health Care and retired from Active Day Home Care in Greenwood, South Carolina.

She was a faithful member of Young's Chapel Baptist Church for more than 50 years, until her health began to fail.  She was actively involved in several ministries, including Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, and a Missionary Society Member. She was still serving faithfully as the secretary in the Woman's Aid Society # 11, until recently.  She loved calling people and begging them for their dues!  She enjoyed working with the members and did it for over 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Deacon James (Gene) Brown, her parents, two sisters, Maggie Goodwin and Annie Ruth Goodwin, four brothers, Archie Talbert, Mark Gilbert, Bruce Goodwin and John Goodwin, Jr.

Mrs. Brown leaves to cherish her memories, a son, John Bernard Brown of Jacksonville, Florida, two sisters, Mary E. Goodwin-Brown, of Aberdeen, Maryland and Barbara J. Stewart of Edgewood, Maryland, one brother Charles Gilbert of Greenwood, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews. cousins, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1 – 6 P.M. at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Mattie Lee Brown will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Young's Chapel Baptist Church with the Reverend Lonnie West Officiating and Reverend Dr. James L Holmes Presiding.  Assisting will be Reverend LaShown Goodwin, Elder Jeffery M. Goodwin and Reverend Anthony Boozer. The body will be placed in the church at 1 P.M.  Burial will be in Evening Star Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Deacons and Flower Bearers will be Deaconess.
