Mary Frances Lagroon Coates, 97, of 528 Pelzer Street, Greenwood, South Carolina, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Bom June 10, 1926, she was the youngest sibling of Hartford Lagroon and Liza Ann Lagroon.

At an early age Mary Frances accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and she joined Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the Callison Community. Mary was educated in Callison School. Late in life, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Parrish Coates, Jr. They were blessed with three children; Liza, Julia and Johnnie Coates.

Mary worked in School District 52 until retirement. Gardening was one of her favorite things to do. She also loved cooking, smiling and eating. She was a beautiful Mother, Aunt, Grandmother and Friend.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: two sisters, Rosie Lee White and Willie Mae; four brothers, Melvin, Henry, Lee and J. B. Hart Lagroon; one son, Johnnie Coates; and one daughter, Julia Mae Burton.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memories: her daughter, Liza Washington of Pennsylvania three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a bonus daughter, Donna Creswell; one sister-in-law, Willie Lee Wilson of Hodges, SC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary Frances, we will always keep you in our heads. Although you're no longer here, we will always love you dearly. We pray God will give us strength to make it day by day. We will pray for each night before we go to sleep.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 1-6 P.M. at the funeral home.

Homegoing service for Mrs. Mary Frances Lagroon Coates will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Flint Hill Baptist Church will Reverend Rodney Currie, Pastor and Officiating. Assisting will be Reverend Shirley Kinard, Reverend Joseph Caldwell and Reverend William Booker. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews and Flower Bearers will be nieces.
