Mrs. Mae Alice Gadson Brown

Mae Alice Brown, daughter of the late Arthur Robert and Mary Bell Gadson was born September 5, 1933 in Columbia, South Carolina. She departed this life on July 5, 2021 after an extended illness.

She joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina at an early age and served faithfully on the Senior Choir and Mary Gadson Missionary.

She was educated at C. A. Johnson High School in Columbia, South Carolina.  On December 29, 1950, Mae Alice was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Samuel Brown, Sr.  To this union three sons were born, Samuel Jr., (Janace) of San Antonio, Texas, Arthur Robert (Jannie) of Columbia, South Carolina and Joseph Carmichael Brown of Greenwood, South Carolina.

In 1965, they relocated to Greenwood, South Carolina where she worked at Nantech Textile Factory and later worked at Self Memorial Hospital as a Nursing Assistant for many years.

She was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Greenwood, South Carolina where she was a deaconess, a member of the missionary, song on the senior choir and an usher.  She was a member of the OES Eastern Star Lodge #282.

She was the last surviving member of ten siblings.

She leaves to cherish her most fond and loving memories; three sons, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Special good-byes to a spiritual sister, Jessie Mae and loving niece Loretta.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Mae Alice Gadson Brown will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 from 1-6 P.M. at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at the home, 203 Edgewood Circle in Ninety-Six, South Carolina.
