NEW YORK -- Madie Elizabeth Walker Freeman was born to the late Jasper Walker, Jr., and Martha Ann Norman on July 28, 1943 in McCormick, South Carolina.

Madie was a 1961 graduate of Mims High School. Following graduation Madie left McCormick, South Carolina living briefly in Albany, New York.  Soon after that she moved to the Big Apple making New York City her second home.  It was there that Madie embarked upon her 33 year caareer with the New York City Telephone Company. Madie later became a member of the Eastern Star Bathsheba Grand Chapter which is called the Zipporah Grand Chapter.  Her position was Marshall. Lastly, she was also a member Isis and of her subordinate chapter called Naomi.

From afar, one might observe Madie's reserved, sometimes shy demeanor and think that was all there was to her. However, those closed to Madie also remember her comical antics and belly aching laughter.  Enough cannot be emphasized about how much Madie loved her family.  She had a servant's heart.

As the fourth oldest child of ten children, Madie was given the responsibility of caring for her youngest siblings and did a great job. When she had her son, Bryant Keith at the age of 21, she dedicated her life to being the best mother she could be.  Her acts of love were limitless.  It could range from opening her house up to whoever needed assistance, to cleaning your kitchen from top to bottom at the end of a party. It didn't stop there, Madie would and have purchased one way tickets to travel and lend her hand in caring for a love one.  May her reward be ever so sweet.

Madie's journey into the everlasting began on January 9, 2018.  She was proceeded in journey by her husband, Will Freeman, her mother and father, four brothers, and three sisters.

Madie leaves to cherish her loving memories, her son, Bryan Keith Walker, Sr. of Mastic Beach, New York; three grandchildren, Bryant Keith Walker, Jr., Byron Keith Walker both of Queens, New York; and Bryanna "Elizabeth" Walker of Mastic Beach, New York; one brother, Bernard E. Walker, Sr., (Etrulia) of McCormick, South Carolina; one sister, Sara Walker of Bronsville, New York; two brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews, an honorary daughter, Carmella Toval and friends.  She will be sorely missed by everyone.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in McCormick, South Carolina with the Reverend Albert G. Bell, Officiating, Reverend Keith Gordon, Pastor and assisting and Reverend Felton Price, Presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The body will be place in the church at 12:00 noon.

The family is at the home of her brother, Bernard E. Walker, 507 Forrest Lake Drive, in McCormick, South Carolina.
