Joseph Morton, 83, of 125 Russell Street, Greenwood, South Carolina passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at his home.

Born in Greenwood County, South Carolina on January 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Willie James Morton, Sr., and the late Lossie Warren.

Joseph retired from the United States Navy and from Walmart, Wesley Commons and Mathew School.

He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, usher and song on the male choir.

Joseph is preceded in death by three brothers, Willie James Morton, Jr., Curtis Morton and Raymond Morton; two sisters, Julia Ann Rollinson and Dorothy Sprowl.

Leaving to cherish his most fond and precious memories are; the love of his life, his wife of sixty-one years, Hattie B. Cannon Morton of the home; three sons, Kenneth (Mikki) Morton of Grovetown, Georgia; Randy (Deborah) Morton of Groton, Connecticut and Ricky Morton of Gales Ferry, Connecticut; one daughter, Kathy Lander of Lansing, Michigan; three sisters, Bertha Lee Senior of Bronx, New York; Martha Sanders of Greenville, South Carolina and Louise (James) Holmes of Greenwood, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Helen Talley of Greenwood, South Carolina and one brother-in-law, Reverend Clyde (Viola) Cannon of Cokesbury, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Manisha (Kyle) Singleton, Michael (Diane) Morton, Randy Morton, Alyssa Morton, Joi Lander, Kaden Morton, Jasmine Morton and Lorenz Morton. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Public viewing will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 1-6 P.M. at the funeral home.

A celebration of Life for Joseph Morton will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Reverend Raymond Adams officiating. Assisting will be Reverend Al Green, Reverend Clyde Cannon, Reverend Michael Cannon, Dr. Dexter Cannon, and Reverend Michael Butler. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 A.M.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
