Mr. John Lester Sprowl, Sr., 92, widower of Carrie Duncan Sprowl passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Self Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Greenwood County, South Carolina on March 5, 1929 to the late Doc Sprowl and Lillie Mae Smith.

John was a Deacon of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church,  a member of Pride Lodge #411 and the Sons of Aide Lodge #30. He  was formerly employed with  EL Calico and Greenwood Landfill.

He is preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and two grandsons.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.

Leaving to cherish his most precious and loving memories are his eight children; four daughters, Rose Ann Sprowl, Lillie Ruth Sprowl, and Gloria Jean Sprowl all of Greenwood, South Carolina; and Sharon (Cornell) Lyons of Grovetown, Georgia; four sons, John L (Doretha) Sprowl, Jr., Thomas (Betty Faye) Sprowl, Marvin Sprowl all of Greenwood, South Carolina and Charles Rufus Sprowl of Hartford Connecticut; four sisters, Luvenia (Raymond) Norman and Esther Spearman both of Greenwood, South Carolina; Joyce (Robert) Adams of Bradley, South Carolina; and Annette Bares of Maryland; one brother, Richard (Mae Helen) Sprowl of Greenwood, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Vera Sprowl and two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Duncan and Dave Duncan; one caretaker of the home, Curtis Sprowl; 21 grandchildren, three reared in the home, Andrea Sprowl, Antwain Sprowl, and Rafeal Lockhart; 56 great grandchildren and  7 great great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with Reverend Darrell Padgett, Pastor and Presiding,  Reverend James Gilchrist, Officiating, assisted by Reverend James Louden, III, Reverend Ricky Quarles and Minister Dorenda Sprowl. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Flower Bearers will be Granddaughters. Honorary Escorts will be Pride Lodge #411 and The Sons of Aide Lodge #30.

Public viewing will be held from 1-6 P.M on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 in the Chapel of Parks Funeral Home.

The family is at home, 301 Mosley Rd.
