Mr. James Monroe, 88,  widower of Catherine Carroll Monroe formerly of 102 Golbys Nob Street in Ninety-Six, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.

Born in Greenwood County, South Carolina on December 24, 1932, he was the son of the late Carol Monroe Herbert and the late Charlie Herbert.

He was educated in the public schools of Ninety-Six, South Carolina and was a former member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church in Ninety-Six, South Carolina.

He was an entrepreneur and was the owner of J. Monroe Trucking Company where he retired after many years of service.

James is preceded in death by his mother, his wife, one son, Earl Monroe, two sisters, Betty Jean Herbert Long and Gloria Jean Herbert;  three brothers, Joseph B. Herbert, Horace Herbert and Leroy A. Herbert.

Leaving to cherish his most fond and precious memories are; three daughters, Carolyn (Earl) Warren of Greenwood, South Carolina; Marilyn M. Martin of Lauren, South Carolina and Barbara M. Williams of Ninety-Six, South Carolina; one son, James Henry Monroe of Columbia, South Carolina;  seven grandchildren, Timothy Warren, Earl LeVan Warren, Theron Warren, Michelle Monroe, Trixie Williams, Shirley Haggins and Patia Monroe; several great and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Deaconess Ernestine) Herbert and Benjamin (Shirley) Herbert both of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Christine Herbert Barnes and Carolyn S. Herbert Butler both of Baltimore Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Darlean F. Herbert and Juanita Herbert and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service will be held  at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Mount Tabor Baptist Church with the Pastor Roger Rivers officiating and assisted by the Reverend Joseph Caldwell.

Pallbearers will be Tim Warren, LeVan Warren, Ron Warren, Van Welton and Willie Goode. Flowers bearers will be  LeShay Reid, Evett Wells, Cristal Ibarra and granddaughters.

Public viewing will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 1 -6 pm at the funeral home.
