Mrs. Irene Dozier Mitchell, 93, of 101 Ohio Court, received peace on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Born to her parents, Rosa Lee Coleman and Claude Dozier, on December 18, 1931, Irene spent all of her early and young adult years in Greenwood County. After marriage to Henry Samuel Mitchell, they relocated to Philadelphia, PA, where they spent several years before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, which is where she spent a majority of her adult life.

In 1974, Irene decided to return to Greenwood, SC to especially be closer to her only sister. During her tenure in Cleveland, Irene worked in the cafeteria at Giddings Elementary School, which she loved. After leaving Cleveland and returning to Greenwood, Irene continued service in the cafeteria of Greenwood High School before serving as a patient sitter with Health Related for several years. She absolutely loved caring for those in need. She was a dutiful volunteer in several areas of servitude. Irene also worked at Piedmont Technical College for several years.

After returning to Greenwood Irene also resumed her membership at Morris Chapel Baptist Church where she diligently taught Sunday School for numerous years. Irene loved spending time with family and traveling with family whenever the opportunity presented itself as well as spending quiet time planting flowers and gardening.

Preceding Irene in death were her parents, Rosa Lee and Claude Dozier; her husband, Henry Samuel Mitchell; her sister, Louise Wright (Hildred); brothers Luke and Brownie Dozier; grandson, Charles Mitchell, Jr.; and stepsons Marion and James Mitchell of New York City.

Irene leaves to cherish with precious memories her beloved children, Jarris Mitchell of Cleveland, OH and Sanchia Mitchell of Columbia, SC; two step children, Dorothy Mitchell of Cleveland, OH and Henry ("June") Mitchell of New York City; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two special cousins, Viola Smith, affectionately known as "Little Vi" and Betty Holmes Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as cousins.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 1-6 P.M. at the funeral home.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Irene Dozier Mitchell will be held at11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Morris Chapel Baptist Church with Bishop Oliver T. McCray, Jr., Pastor and Officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Deacons and Minister of Morris Chapel Baptist Church. Flower Bearers will be Widows Society of Morris Chapel Baptist Church.

The family is at their respective homes.
