Hosie Byrd, Jr., husband of Annie L. Gilchrist Byrd, father, brother, friend, and servant of God left this life on November 28, 2019. Born to the late Hosie Byrd, Sr., and Minnie Lee Jones Byrd, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Ruth Byrd Freeman, and a brother, James Jones. He married the former Annie L. Gilchrist on May 4, 1963, and to this union of 56 years was born four children, Dr. Linda Byrd (Duluth, GA), Amy (Howard) Tate (Abbeville, SC), Vincent Byrd (Greenwood, SC), and Ivy Byrd (of the home).  In addition to his loving wife and four children, he leaves to cherish his memory brothers Samuel (Eula) Byrd (Hodges, SC), Judge Benjamin F. (Jessie) Byrd (Columbia, SC), Claude (Brenda) Byrd (Hodges, SC); and two sisters Annie Byrd Bennett and Martha (Wes) Byrd Johnson both of Durham-Raleigh, NC; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Gilchrist (Pensacola, FL), Viola Gilchrist (Greenwood, SC); and a brother-in-law, James Gilchrist (Greenville, SC). Grandchildren Ashley Fisher (Hodges, SC), Jasmine Bennett (Greenville, SC), John (Wendy) Johnson (Columbia, SC), and Cynthia Williams (Anderson, SC). Great-grandchildren Allanah Bennett King (of the home), Kolton Fisher (Hodges, SC), Samari Higgins, Josiah Johnson, Ashari Reese, and Nyshan Williams, Kingston and Savannah Johnson; Aunts Willie Mae Austin of Promised Land, SC, Martha Moore of Boston, MA, and Hattie Henderson of Greenwood, SC; and an uncle Samuel (Myra) Jones of Columbia, SC.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in Christ, and friends to mourn his passing.

He loved cars. He began his career at Boles Enterprises. He then went on to work for Greenwood Mills before deciding to start his own automotive business.  He and his wife and later brother Samuel and his wife worked together running Byrd Service Automotive for 45 years before retiring in 2010. His love of cars was only surpassed by his love for the Lord. He was baptized into Christ in 1976. He went on to study Bible at Southeastern Biblical Institute where he received his bachelor's degree and Alabama Christian School of Religion for his master's degree. He was ordained as a minister in 1979. With the support of brothers from the Greenwood Church of Christ and West End Church of Christ in Atlanta, GA, he started the work at Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ in 1986. The members of the Maxwell congregation later moved to the Southside Church of Christ located at Old Mt. Moriah Road. He broadcasted the gospel weekly on the radio.  He labored with the brethren at the Southside Church of Christ until his death.

The family will receive family and friends at the Southside Church of Christ, 212 Old Mount Moriah Road on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The homegoing service will be held at noon on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at Southside Church of Christ with Ministers Albert Scurry and Roland Cumbee officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
