Born in McCormick County, South Carolina on June 3, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Moses Sr. and Frances Patterson.  She joined Tranquil African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health failed.

She is preceded in death by one son, Clarence Patterson Sr.

Leaving to cherish her most fond and precious memories are; five daughters, Reverend Carrie (John) Samuel of Greenwood, South Carolina; Janette Patterson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Lisa Patterson of the home; Dr. Brenda (Gregory) Patterson-Ishmael of Neeses, South Carolina and  Patricia Patterson of McCormick, South Carolina; three sons, Curtis Patterson and  John Archie Patterson both of McCormick, South Carolina, and Charles (Lynn) Patterson of Greenwood, South Carolina; one honorary son, Willie Durant of McCormick, South Carolina;  one daughter-in-law, Roberta Patterson of Greenwood, South Carolina and  a longtime friend, Ellen Wideman of McCormick, South Carolina;  21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

A celebration of Life for Ms. Helen Patterson will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Tranquil African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bradley, South Carolina with the Reverend Carrie Samuel, Presiding and Reverend Dr. Elder Derrick Scott, Eulogist. Assisting will be Reverend Jerry Allen Aiken, Reverend Brenda W. Lomax, and Minister Dr. Brenda Ishmael.
