RL Morton, of 122 Wilderness Road, Hodges, SC, departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Abbeville Area Medical Center.

He was born in Abbeville County on July 1, 1935, the son of the late Rockford and Mary Terry Morton. RL was a devoted member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Hodges, SC.

RL retired from Riegel Textiles and the Abbeville County School District. He loved farming and gardening and made the best sausage around. He was affectionally known as the Sausage Man."

He was preceded in death by five (5) brothers, Clarence, James, Maruim, Herbie and Howard; one sister, Lois.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Emma McKnight Morton of the home; one daughter, Mitzi Morton Thompson of Piedmont, SC; one brother, Moses (Georgia) Morton; three sisters, Cora Jackson, Clara Aiken and Carol Hicks, all of Due West, SC; three sisters-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Mt Zion AME Church in Hodges, SC, with Rev Milton Aiken officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum.

Pall Bearers will be nephews and friends.

The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorials be made in honor of RL to Mt. Zion AME Building Fund, PO Box 116, Hodges, SC 29653.
