Bertha Mae Hackett Mosley, of Saint Albans, New York peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday October 1, 2026 in the comfort of her home.
Born on October 7, 1932 in Greenwood, South Carolina, Bertha was the second eldest child of ten children born to the late Carrie Lou Hackett Shephard and Ernest Hackett, Sr. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Johnnie Christoher and her cherished son Milledge Mosley, Jr, seven siblings: Bobby Hackett, Carrie Mae Edwards, Mary Alice Lake, Bettye Laster, Willie “Bill” Hackett, Ernest Hackett, Jr., Edward Hackett, Sr.
Bertha grew up in Greenwood, South Carolina where she attended and graduated from Greenwood County Public Schools. From an early age, she demonstrated a compassionate heart and a desire to care for others. As a young woman, she began her journey in healthcare working as a nurse’s assistant at Brewer Hospital.
Seeking greater opportunities and a brighter future, Bertha, Johnnie, and Milledge relocated to New York. Determined to further her education and pursue her passion for helping others, Bertha earned her Registered Nursing degree and worked faithfully at Metropolitan Hospital for thirty years in the operating room, where her skill, compassion, and unwavering commitment to patient care touched countless lives.
Bertha was also a devoted woman of faith and a faithful member of Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York. Her church was an important part of life, providing her with spiritual strength, fellowship, and a deep sense of belonging until her declining health prevented her from attending.
Bertha was a remarkable woman who carried herself with grace, dignity, love, and respect. She strongly believed in the importance of education and never missed an opportunity to encourage others to pursue knowledge, work hard, and strive for a better future. Bertha left a lasting impression on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. She enjoyed engaging in meaningful conversations and sharing her wisdom with people she loved.
Her life was a beautiful reflection of strength, determination, compassion, and faith. Bertha left a lasting impression on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Bertha is survived by her two loving sisters Clemetine Bryant Griffin of Greenwood South Carolina and Tenessa Kersey (Harold) of Hodges South Carolina. A devoted loving niece, and caretaker of the home Tammie T. Hackett, one God daughter Ms. Sybil Gaines of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a granddaughter in love Jocelyn Gaines of Charlotte North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday October 15, 2026 from 2-6 P.M at the funeral home.
A celebration of life for Bertha Mae Hackett Mosley will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday October 16, 2026 at The Baptist Center in Greenwood, South Carolina with Pastor Danny Webb. Officiating. The body will be placed in the Baptist Center at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park in Hodges, South Carolina. .
The family will receive friends at Mrs. Clemetine Bryant Griffin’s home at 342 Joe Lewis Blvd Greenwood, SC 29646 from 2-6 P.M. daily.
