Arma Jean Jones Mayes, 71, of 230 N. Hospital Street, widow of Eddie L. Mayes, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jeanette Cohen and Mr. and Mrs. William "Bill" Jones.

She was a 1964 graduate of Brewer High School and previously employed with Kass Industrial Industries in New York, NY, as an accountant.

Surviving are three daughters, Alfinie Mayes of Norristown, PA, Sophia Mayes of Lawrenceville, GA, and Crystal Mayes of the home; fourteen grandchildren, four were raised in the home, Shakirrah Gumbs, Sha'Asia Mayes-Mayfield, Ariel Mayes-Smith and Michelle Jones; four great-grandchildren; five godchildren; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces ,nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, her parents, and nine siblings. She was the last surviving member of her birth family.

Services will be held at noon on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Dunham Temple CME Church, with the Rev. James E McKee, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Public viewing with be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parks Funeral Home.
