Deacon Albert "Samp" Gaston, Sr. 79, departed his life on September 4, 2020 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Born June 19, 1941, he was the son of the  late Eva Mae Phillips and the late Frank Gaston, Sr.  He attended the public schools in Edgefield County.  At an early age he joined Lower Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch, South Carolina where he served as a Deacon and was an active member in the church.  He was employed with Greenwood Mills where he retired after several years of service.

"Samp" as he was called by his family and friends was married to the lovely Sarah Ella Terry and from this union two children were born, Albert Gaston, Jr., and Tammy Gaston both of Greenwood, South Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Robbie "Bee" Hill and five brothers, Robert Gaston, Olando Gaston, Edward Gaston, Frank Gaston, Jr., and Claude Gaston.

He leaves to cherish his most precious memories; a devoted wife of 54 years of the home; two children; four grandchildren, Laquanza D.  Smith, Darius L. Gaston, Ella "Dray" Greene and Albert (A J) Gaston, III; two great grandchildren, DiRyiah E. Gaston and Jaylen S. Gaston; two brothers, William Gaston of McCormick, South Carolina and Walter Gaston of Greenwood, South Carolina; five sisters, Wanda Jean (Alvin) Morton of McCormick, South Carolina, Dorothy (Rev. Felton) Price and Elizabeth Carter of Greenwood, South Carolina; Minister Clara Carter of Greer, South Carolina and Gloria Harris of Germantown, Maryland; a host of sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends to mourn his passing.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Evening Star Cemetery with the Reverend Melvin Gordon officiating.  Assisted by Reverend Felton Price and Reverend Krystal Bryant.

Public viewing will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 1-6p.m. in the  chapel.

The family is at the home, 201 Nicholson Drive in the Promised Land Community.
